Silence as prayer

Before you speak, ask yourself:
Is it kind?
Is it necessary?
Is it true?
Does it improve on the silence?

``Therefore be still awhile from thy own thoughts, searching, seeking, desires, and imaginations, and be staid in the principle of God in thee, that it may raise thy mind up to God, and stay it upon God, and thou wilt find strength from him, and find him to be a God at hand, a present help in time of trouble, and of need. And thou being come to the principle of God, which hath been transgressed, it will keep thee humble; and the humble, God will teach his way, which is peace, and such he doth exalt.'' George Fox (1624-1691), a founder of the Religious Society of Friends

``True silence is the rest of the mind; and is to the spirit, what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.'' William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania

The offering baskets are placed near the door ; give if you desire as you depart from the service.
Prelude and w elcomewe prepare to enter the silence
A time for all God's children

What happens in the silence?

Centering acknowledge and set aside cares, concerns, distractions. Empty you rself, creating a space for God and the Spirit to work within.
Presence acknowledge God's presence in this space and in your heart. Welcome God and give thanks for the love and care you have received.
Experiencing Allow your co-worshipers to be spiritually close to you. You are becoming sisters and brothers in faith and worship.
Cleansing/ Deep e mptying confession, reflecting on deep hurts and longing. Returning then to God's desire to fill us and make us whole.
Listening Invite God to speak to you, exercise the discipline of listening. Visualize seeing God and hearing God's voice. Be open to knowing God's truth and call to you personally. Be ready to risk obedience.
Filling Experience the Holy Spirit's work of filling you with love, joy, peace, joy, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Often what comes with this filling is a desire to smile, play, sing, or shout. It can also engender a deep peace, a quite calm.
Blessing acknowledge the experience of God's blessings of peace, joy, love, and comfort. Prepare to take these blessings with you from the worship into the world.
Handshake the worship leader extends the hand of fellowship, trust, and unity to the person on their right and left, and the gesture is passed around the circle marking the end of the silence.

Prayer

Holy One, our only Home,
Blessed be your name.
May your day dawn,
Your will be done,
Here, as in heaven.
Feed us today, and forgive us.
Do not forsake us at the test,
But deliver us from evil.
For the glory, the power,
And the mercy are yours,
Now and forever. Amen.

Benediction :
I Am - the silence within you. I Am - the noise around you.
Bring peace from the silence within you.
May the jarring sounds of discord be softened by you.
Receive peace from the noise around you.
May the soothing sound of harmonies feed you.
For the peace of Christ is in all, around all, and over all.
Go in peace. Amen.
